We at Trethwest started dabbling in game programming on a whim. We’ve always enjoyed making music and cartoon art. We had been thinking about combining the two, possibly making cartoon animations. With the increasing proliferation of mobiles phones we started gaining an interest in game development. We at Trethwest had gained experience with programming both through our university studies and our real-world work where we learned C and C++. With our increasing familiarity programming and our love for music and art, we decided to take the plunge and actively started to learn gaming programming concepts from scratch.
We don’t specialize in a particular language but rather focus on being good at programming generally. We truly believe there isn’t a language we can’t learn. That said, we are proficient in are C, C++, Java (Android), Python (of course!), Swift (iOS), Lisp (particularly AutoLisp - one of us spends too much time in AutoCAD…) and scientific languages R, and MATLAB.
Our main development focus right now is finishing Mee in a Box for Android and iOs (possibly desktop as well), however we have several other games and educational apps on the back burner. An additional upcoming project is actually education software designed at teaching students mathematics. The application is being designed by an actual mathematicians based on relevant elementary and secondary school curriculum.
We are also creating programming and game programming tutorials. We recently produced a “how-to-get-started” in mobile gaming tutorial module for Interactive Ontario:
